Vigna Lirano Nascetta Langhe DOC – Enrico Rivetto

Tasting Notes

The Rivetto estate farms in Serralunga d'Alba, in the heart of Barolo, but Enrico's dedication to Nascetta, one of Piedmont's most obscure and historically important native white varieties, has been one of the more compelling chapters of his winemaking. Nascetta nearly disappeared entirely: long confused with other varieties, seldom bottled on its own and largely ignored during Piedmont's red wine century, it was brought back by a small group of passionate producers in the Novello area in the 1990s, of which Enrico is among the most committed voices. Vigna Lirano is the single-vineyard expression, from the Lirano parcel in the Langhe. Nascetta in the Langhe DOC context: fermented with indigenous yeasts, minimal sulphites, characteristic of the Rivetto philosophy of genuine expression without oenological intervention. The grape has a naturally complex aromatic profile: white flowers, lime zest, hazelnut and a mineral, almost chalky quality that sets it apart from other Piedmontese whites. On the palate it is textured, saline and long. Good with white truffle preparations, freshwater fish, pasta and aged goat's milk cheeses.
