Tasting Notes
Malagousia is one of the great rediscoveries of modern Greek wine: an ancient white variety that had nearly disappeared before Gerovassiliou rescued it in the 1980s. Today it is widely planted across northern Greece and is prized for its extraordinary aromatic intensity, combining ripe stone fruit and exotic flowers with a freshness and structure that make it far more food-friendly than its perfume might suggest. Anatolikos Vineyards grows Malagousia organically in Thrace, where the cooler conditions give the variety a cleaner, more precise expression than in warmer southern sites. Vinified with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, on lees, to preserve freshness and aromatic lift. The nose is immediately appealing and complex: ripe peach, apricot, jasmine, elderflower, lime and a fine herbal mineral note. On the palate it is round and fresh, with good acidity and a clean, long finish. Good with grilled sea bream, mild spiced dishes, soft cheeses and as an aperitif.
