Tasting Notes
The Côte du Py is Morgon's most famous parcel: a volcanic hill of decomposed syenite (blue stone, or "roche bleue") that gives the wines grown on its slopes a depth, grip and ageing capacity that distinguishes them from the rest of the appellation. This is the wine Gamay drinkers point to when making the case for Beaujolais as a serious ageing proposition. From the estate's biodynamic plots on the Py, vinified in the natural Beaujolais carbonic or semi-carbonic maceration tradition: whole bunches, indigenous yeasts, minimal intervention. The 2021 is a composed, mineral vintage. Deep ruby; dark cherry, pomegranate, volcanic mineral, dried flowers and a characteristic iron note; structured and tannic by Beaujolais standards, with the Py's signature long, stony finish. Good with charcuterie, roasted meats, duck and Époisses.
