Priorat DOQ – Costerduo

Tasting Notes

The project was founded by Danilo Vladi, a winemaker and viticulturist trained at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, who has been farming his own Priorat vineyards since 2016. Based in Torroja del Priorat, Costerduo is a small artisan estate working exclusively with the two great native varieties of the region: Garnacha and Carinyena (Carignan) from llicorella (black and reddish slate with mica) soils. Careful hand-picking in 12 to 20-kilogram boxes; alcoholic fermentation in small stainless-steel and concrete tanks with periodic cap submersion and fairly limited maceration; gentle pressing; malolactic fermentation; aged in French oak. The standard Priorat is a classic coupage of Garnacha and Carinyena, made in a lighter and fresher style than the old-vine bottling — less oak extraction, more immediate fruit. Black cherry, dark plum, Mediterranean herbs, mineral slate; medium-full body, structured but not heavy, long savoury finish. Good with grilled lamb, braised pork, rice dishes, hard aged cheeses and Spanish charcuterie.
