Crémant D'alsace Extra-Brut – Domaine Albert Mann

Tasting Notes

From Demeter-certified biodynamic vineyards in Wettolsheim, on loamy limestone and gravel, the Barthelmé brothers craft this Crémant using traditional méthode champenoise. A blend led by Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, with Pinot Gris and small amounts of Pinot Noir, it spends a minimum of 24 months on lees. The nose is clear and precise: fresh apple, citrus peel, orange blossom and a light toasty note from lees contact. On the palate it is crisp and taut, with a fine, persistent mousse, gentle salinity and a chalky texture that lifts it well above most Crémants. Excellent with oysters, smoked fish and light starters.

Details:

  • Grape variety: Pinot Blanc (dominant), Auxerrois, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir
  • Vinification: Traditional method (méthode champenoise), native yeast fermentation, gentle pressing
  • Aging: Minimum 24 months on lees; extra-brut dosage (near zero)
  • Organoleptic description: Pale straw gold, fine perlage; fresh apple, citrus peel, orange blossom, light brioche; crisp and taut palate, fine mousse, chalky finish with a saline edge
  • Food pairing: Oysters, smoked fish, light starters, aperitif
