Tasting Notes
Clos Canereccia is the estate of Christian Esteve's family in Aléria, on the alluvial eastern plain of Corsica. Christian's grandfather Pierre began cultivating vines here in 1970, and in 2010 Christian's son Titi took over the reins, modernising the cellar and redirecting the estate toward the island's forgotten indigenous varieties. Merlot and Grenache gave way to Niellucciu, Sciaccarellu, Carcaghjolu Neru and, for the whites, Vermentinu — the principal variety used in this entry Blanc. The estate was certified organic in 2017 and now covers 9 hectares. Vinification is done by gravity in stainless steel, with the wine spending some time in oak, and minimal sulphites throughout. The estate Blanc is a direct and aromatic expression of Corsican Vermentinu on the island's characteristic alluvial and clay soils near the coast: pale gold, with pear, quince, citrus blossom and a fresh mineral note. On the palate it is clean, round and saline, with a light texture and a refreshing finish. Good with grilled fish, Corsican charcuterie and brocciu cheese.
